You can really appreciate the brushstrokes of the original oil on canvas painting Waterlilies, 1916-1919, which is in the Musee Marmottan, Paris.

Monet began painting the waterlily pond in his garden at Giverny in 1893 and continued to paint it until his death in 1926. Said Monet: "Suddenly I had the revelation of how magical my pond is. I took up my palette and since that time, I have scarcely had any other model."
